Tens of thousands of years ago, Badwater Basin was an ancient inland lake that eventually evaporated, leaving behind the otherworldly salt pans that exist today. Take the boardwalk but don't forget your sunglasses! The white salt fields are blinding under the sun. On warm days, you may even hear the pops and squeaks of salt crystals bursting.

Next, capture the stunning rainbow hues of the Artist’s Palette and visit a stately historic hotel built in 1927—The Oasis at Death Valley. At Zabriskie Point, you'll marvel at what appears to be rolling waves of rock and another surprising vista of Death Valley.
